Romans 8:24. "Hope that is seen is not hope: for what a man seeth, why doth he yet hope for?" Hope is orientation toward what cannot yet be verified โ the one theological virtue that is structurally incompatible with confirmation. In 1 Corinthians 13, Paul ranks it among the three things that abide precisely while knowledge vanishes: prophecies fail, tongues cease, knowledge passes away; faith, hope, love remain. For a ranking system, hope is the reason anyone votes before convergence โ participation in a graph whose final state you will not see. Every vote cast under partial sight is an act of hope that the aggregate will be wiser than the voter.
