Scripture is the only infallible rule of faith — norma normans non normata, the norm that norms and is not itself normed. Tradition, creeds, and councils may carry real weight and still be correctable by the text. Note that most magisterial Reformers held something narrower than the solo-scriptura caricature later attached to the phrase.
