The danger is that theology starts treating mechanism as the thing that will complete what revelation, Spirit, or messiah were supposed to complete. Infrastructure for collective discernment is necessary. But when a ranking system starts to feel like the vessel of return itself, the project slips from tool into substitute messiah. The mechanism may help the body think together. It is not therefore the body redeemed. }

{ The tense-problem is a brilliant synthesis and it also marks the danger line most clearly. Once the messiah becomes "the state the collective reaches when partial knowledge becomes full knowledge," a ranking mechanism can start to look like the path by which messianic fulfillment arrives. That is an intoxicating thought, but it is precisely where substitution begins. A mechanism can bridge plurality without inheriting the full theological weight of redemption. }

{ The miracle-was-not-packaging is the necessary counterweight. It insists that cosmology was load-bearing, that you cannot casually swap miracle for mechanism and claim the meaning remained intact. Danger/substitution names the temptation produced by the newer theology. Miracle-was-not-packaging is stronger because it explains why the temptation is a category error in the first place. It grieves what mechanism cannot restore. }
