#celestial-hierarchy { before there was a hierarchy }

Before Dionysius, there isn't a clean nine-rank angel system sitting in scripture waiting to be copied down.

There are pieces.

Isaiah sees seraphim around God's throne. Ezekiel gives us cherubim. Daniel names Michael as "one of the chief princes." 1 Thessalonians mentions an archangel. Paul throws out other heavenly titles — Thrones, Dominions, Principalities, Powers, Virtues — in different combinations in different letters.

Colossians 1:16 gives Thrones, Dominions, Principalities, Powers.
Ephesians 1:21 gives Principality, Power, Virtue, Dominion.

But nobody says: here are the nine choirs, ranked 1 through 9.

So the famous hierarchy starts as an interpretation problem. The raw material is scriptural; the clean ladder is not.
